How we do it...

This is from September, 2007. The open freezer incident is what spurred us along to working on filling the pantry rather than the freezer. Nothing like watching the giant barbecue at the burn pit and hundreds of dollars in meat and veggies fried up for burial to motivate you into canning and dehydrating :o(

Ok, this weekend we did some meat shopping. We bought some cases of meats to prep for the freezer:

One was a case of chuck roast 'sides' to cut into steaks and roasts:

We also bought a case of pork tenderloins to cut into chops and roasts, then a case of ground beef to divide up.

The results for the freezer -- about 185# of meat for about $229. Probably could have done better, or at least just as well, with fresh butchered meats, but this wasn't too bad a gathering. Our freezer was left opened over night a few weeks ago...yes, during that wonderful 100+ heat stroke weather we had...and we ended up losing almost an entire freezer store of meats and supplies. This is our start at restocking a bit.
